Taxidermy
We do not offer taxidermy services, nor do we employ taxidermists on our staff. The purpose of the information provided in this article is to equip prospective clients with the knowledge necessary to integrate taxonomic preservation principles into their safari arrangements. It also aims to empower them to engage with their chosen taxidermist in a knowledgeable and informed manner.
Clients have the option to bypass taxidermy expenses entirely by choosing to leave their trophies in RSA (Republic of South Africa). Some clients find satisfaction in returning to their country of residence with only the exceptional photographs of their harvested trophies, which we readily provide. This decision is entirely personal. Should clients opt for this choice, they can be assured that no part of the animals left behind will go to waste.
If the client chooses to preserve taxonomic specimens of their trophies, they will need to decide how to preserve them. This decision depends on three main factors:
- The client’s personal preferences.
- The available space for displaying the specimens.
- The client’s budget for taxidermy work.
The cost of taxidermy services depends on several factors, including:
- Number of animals to be treated.
- Size of each individual animal.
- Species of the animal.
- Type of treatment required (e.g., full-body mount, shoulder mount, flat skin, rug w/head attached, back skin, custom accessories).
- Any need for reconstructive work, among other considerations.
Due to the complexity of these factors, 1Hunt does not provide estimates of taxidermy expenses as it falls outside our professional expertise.
Clients who wish to have taxidermy work completed on their trophies can choose between having the work done in RSA or their home country. Our dip & ship affiliate collaborates closely with local taxidermists who can provide cost estimates upon request. While taxidermy work in RSA is often less expensive, additional shipping expenses for larger crates may offset any savings. Clients should note that payment for completed work in RSA must be made promptly to receive the finished products.
Some clients prefer to have treated specimens crated and shipped to their chosen taxidermist in their home country, allowing them to spread the cost over several months or years. It is advisable for clients to consult with multiple taxidermists in their home country before departing on safari. Discussing plans and expectations with them will help select the taxidermist that best meets their needs.
Quality and completion times in taxidermy work vary depending on price and client preferences. Clients should consider their personal taste and expectations when making decisions. For additional information, clients are encouraged to speak with our professional staff members.
